Core values
Learning and teaching
There is an undeniable connection between teaching and learning. The goals of both activities must align. Teaching and learning are social activities. The success of social activity hinges on communication and the development of shared understandings amongst participants. Aligning teaching and learning requires both teachers and learners have a shared vocabulary and that there is a coherent curriculum outlining the objectives and the pedagogical assumptions used to achieve them. The teacher's role in the process is to impart the skills required for learning in a context that is meaningful and relevant to the learner. The learner's role is to develop these skills so as to take ownership of their learning and make connections conceptually. The result is an individual who can use and adapt their skills to reach their potential. |
Leadership and management
As with teaching and learning leadership and management are connected, and the goals of both activities must align. Leaders make vision manifest; they make the aspirational possible. Effective leaders build bridges between what exists and a collective vision. As teachers, they provide the tools for individuals to take ownership of the journey between what exists and the vision. Excellent leaders build capacity in those they lead. Management is the action component of leadership. Effective managers develop and manage resources to move from what exists to what could exist. When the goals of leadership and management are concordant, a vision becomes reality. |
