Developing school wide expectations for teaching and learning of essential skills 

I believe that the development of a cohesive and comprehensive scope and sequence of learning skills is essential. Essential learning skills transcend those of individual disciplines and ensure learners have the tools they need to take control of their learning. The development of a scope and sequence of these skills allows for the explicit teaching and development of these skills across the school.

They are the means of ensuring there are agreed upon expectations for teaching and learning.  Developing common understandings of these expectations makes for an efficient teaching and learning environment.  An environment with a common goal where we build on the work of others and profit from prior learning. ​

​A comprehensive and cohesive curriculum is key to a successful educational experience for all stakeholders in a learning environment. Whether a curriculum is adopted, adapted, mandated or school-based, a clear set of curricular standards built on common assumptions is the starting point for teaching and learning. It sets the stage for the development of conceptual understanding.
